Sozoranga is a small cantón located in the southern province of Loja, enriched with mountain forests near the border with Peru. The history of Sozoranga dates back to a long time ago, with the ?rst mention of its name recorded in 1719. It has always been a place of constant movement, with com-merce playing a vital role in its development. The town itself is nestled under the imposing Jatum-pamba mountain, adding to its scenic beauty. Additionally, Sozoranga boasts an impressive and expansive natural reserve known as El Tundo, spanning an area of 158 hectares dedicated to the conservation of ?ora and fauna. This reserve is renowned for its remarkable biodiversity, with a diverse range of ?owers, native birds, and unique species of ?ora and fauna. The inhabitants of the region are committed to preserving this ecosystem as it plays a vital role in the overall ecosystem of Sozoranga and has a positive impact on their farms. The main agricultural activities in the area inclu-de sugar cane, corn, and coffee, with coffee being considered the most important crop.
Caravela has been collaborating with coffee producers in the area for several years now, with our PECA technician visiting the producers and providing guidance on various aspects such as drying techniques, farm management, and more. In 2023, a purchasing station will be established in the nearby canton of Puyango to facilitate the coffee delivery process.
