La Roca is produced by 65 small-scale coffee growers settled in la Cordillera of Dipilto, a nature reserve that contains an incredible level of biodiversity of flora and fauna. It is located very close to the Honduras boarder. The region is popular for the annual celebration of the Guadalupe Virgin feasts, named after the Virgen de la Piedra, who looks down from the sacred monument above the famous big rock in Dipilto. This is where La Roca, gets its name from.
Specialty coffee is what makes Dipilto such a well-known area. Conditions such as the elevation, soils, and microclimates make this community ideal for exceptional coffees. Caravela Nicaragua began working with the small-scale growers in this area in 2012. It wasn’t until end of 2013 however, that we decided to install a cupping lab in Ocotal, allowing us to be closer to the producers and to help them produce better quality coffees.
“La Roca is a floral coffee with notes of brown sugar, milk chocolate with a silky body, and these together make it an amazing combination between sweet and juicy.”
